Uhuru Peak is with 5895 metres above sealevel the highest point of Kilimanjaro. There are several routes that lead to this point. S & G Explorer offers tours two of these both routes.
After an early breakfast we departe for the Marangu Gate, where the voyage to the roof of Africa begins. Today the walk takes us through the rainforrest to the first hut. The Mandara hut is located at 2700m.
Today a 5 to 6 hour walk takes us through open country covered with heath and low vegetation before we arrive at the Horombo hut, where we will spend our second night. We are at 3657m above sealevel.
Today is the most demanding day of our trip. For six hours we walk through rough terrain that resembles a moonscape. Due to our accent the weather changes, the wind is stronger and it can be very cold. We spend the night at 4700m in the Kibo hut.
In the middle of the night we depart for the last part of our journey to the top. Slowly we climb to the edge of the Kibo Crater and we arrive at Gilmans Point (5680m) just as the sun is coming up. After that we walk along the ice to the real top of the Kilimanjaro: Uhuru Peak (5895m). When we arrive here we are really on top of the roof of Africa. We return to the Kibo hut for a short break, before decending back to the Horombo hut for the night.
Today we come down all the way to the Marangu Gate, where we started our journey. If you reached the top, you will receive a certificate. There is a connecting shuttle service that takes you back to your hotel, to relax.
